Sightseeing tour of Taganrog for participants of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students

October 19, 2017: the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) jointly with the International Union of Students are holding the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students in Russia. It's taking place under the motto "For peace, solidarity and social justice, we struggle against imperialism. Honoring our past, we build the future!".

Earlier, in 1957 and in 1985, two editions of the festival were held in Moscow, Soviet Union to promote humanist values, peaceful cooperation and international friendship.

For the first time since 1985 Russia receives festival participants. The 19th edition is taking place from October 14 to October 21, 2017 in different parts of this country. Rostov Oblast became one of the venues for festival events. The traditional cultural program for foreign participants included a sightseeing tour of Taganrog – "The South Russian Capital of Culture", home city of the famous writer Anton Chekhov.

October 17, 2017 a delegation of 99 foreign students from more than 50 world countries (Argentina, Brazil, Great Britain, Gambia, India, USA, Philippines, Montenegro, Macedonia and many more) visited the city of Taganrog.

Participants of the Festival met with Taganrog foreign relations officer Alexander Mirgorodskiy, director of youth affairs council Konstantin Harchenko and other representatives of the local government. During the tour of the city, foreign guests visited the Chekhov Gymnasium Literature Museum, Taganrog Museum of Art, Chekhov Monument and Peter the Great Monument.
