Canadian Paralympian athlete and motivational speaker Tracy Schmitt visiting Taganrog

November 29, 2018: extraordinary leader, author of the best-selling book "Unstoppable You", humanitarian volunteer, disability advocate, decorated Paralympian athlete and motivational speaker Tracy Schmitt from Toronto, Canada visited the city of Taganrog within the framework of the week dedicated to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the forum "The World of Lim(b)itless Possibilities".

The award-winning Canadian athlete known as "The Unstoppable Tracy" was born a 4-way amputee and has gone a long way to overcome many obstacles to be able to captain tall ships and participate in world cup regattas, to climb Himalayan mountains and to win paraskiing bronze medal. In 2017 Tracy Schmitt visited the XI International Camping Congress in city of Sochi and decided to learn more about Russian efforts to advance inclusive educational programs to further the education of children with disabilities.

In Taganrog "The Unstoppable Tracy" visited Anton Chekhov memorial sites, attended sporting competitions and a creative engagement lesson for physically challenged and mentally retarded children at the kindergarten "Svetlyachok", visited the Taganrog Social Service Center. After a short tour around the latter, Tracy Schmitt participated in the meeting with representatives of Taganrog Local Government, directors of social service institutions and leaders of local disabled persons' organisations.

After the formal part, the conversation continued over a cup of tea with sweets. The decorated athlete shared her impressions of Russia and of her meeting with Sergey Burlakov - resident of Taganrog known as the first person on the planet who overcame the marathon distance on two prosthetic devices, told about the Canadian system for the rehabilitation of the disabled and opportunities for their integration into society, shared her award-winning experience with the audience and provided valuable insights on her philosophy and the latest achievements. At the end of the meeting Tracy Schmitt met the press.
