October 26, 2016, on the national holiday of Austria, a video bridge between Ms. Ines Thalia Burkhardt, Austria-based German writer and German-learners from Taganrog schools was held at Tchaikovsky House — Chekhov public library's foreign languages department. The event was organized and realized by Taganrog German teachers association "Lorelei", Foreign Relations Office of Taganrog City Hall and Taganrog Chekhov library to provide the school children with information about one of the German-speaking countries.
Before embarking on this virtual journey in company with a native German speaker, Taganrog school students were interested to learn more about Tyrol - an Alpine state in western Austria, prepared questions and presentations. On the national holiday, all Austrian museums are open to the public, while Ines Burkhardt opened the doors into the old downtown area of Innsbruck, its main street and major places of interest, including the House with golden roof, the Innsbruck Cathedral of St. James, the Triumphal Arch of the Austrian empress Maria Theresa, and Tyrolean State Theatre. She also told children of Taganrog about the history, culture, cuisine and nature of federal state of Tyrol.
The children reciprocated by singing Tyrol's anthem in German language, which was also followed by a musical gift for Ines Burkhardt - an excerpt from Modest Mussorgsky's "The Fair at Sorochyntsi" was performed on the violin by Yekaterina Pitodni, student of Taganrog municipal school no.5.
