September 13, 2021: Valentina Matvienko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council, visited the city of Taganrog as a follow-up to
her previous trip in September 2020.
The visit schedule included Dubki Grove,
Gorky Park, Square of Peter the First and other sites. The senior Russian official was accompanied by the First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Andrey Yatskin, the First Deputy Chairwoman of Constitutional Law and Public Housing Committee of the Federation Council Irina Rukavishnikova, Sinara Group President Dmitry Pumpiansky, the first deputy chairman of VEB.RF Nikolay Tsekhomsky, director general of Tourism.RF Corporation Sergey Sukhanov, Rostov Oblast Governor Vasily Golubev, Taganrog City Council President and City Executive Inna Titarenko, Taganrog City Manager Andrey Lisitsky and others.
Valentina Matvienko took part in the opening ceremony of
the modernized Taganrog Streetcar System within the framework of Taganrog's Urban Revitalisation Program and gave a start to its second modernization stage. She took a tram to explore the work done in the first modernization stage and met local people at the station
"Taganrog Town-Planning Museum".
Chairwoman of the Federation Council also visited the improved
Southern Federal University's garden, Square of Peter the Great, the seaport and Pushkin Embankment.
Valentina Matvienko emphasized that issues of Taganrog's development were being addressed by Rostov Oblast Government and personally Governor; "so practical measures have already been taken", she said. Among the examples of such actions are the project of environmental improvements of Don River, a renovation programme for Taganrog's water supply and drainage systems, the program "Clear Sky", which focuses on replacement of overhead cables and wires with underground cables.
Chairwoman of the Federation Council added that the Government of the Russian Federation had included Taganrog in the programme of tourism cluster development. "This means the development of the local tourism infrastructure, so the attractiveness of Taganrog, the number of tourists and workplaces will grow as well. It will be an essential part of the city's economy", Valentina Matvienko said.
