Visit of Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko to Taganrog

September 4, 2020: yesterday, September 3, Valentina Matvienko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council, visited Taganrog within the framework of a working trip to Rostov Oblast. The visit schedule included two largest industrial plants - TAGMET and Beriev Aircraft Company, Taganrog Chekhov Drama Theater, and the Peoples' Museum of Military History "Sambek Heights" - the new branch of Taganrog Group of Museums, which opened its doors to the public just a few days ago.

Valentina Matvienko arrived to Taganrog's Yuzhny Airport and started her program by visiting Beriev Aircraft Company - the assembly plant producing the multipurpose amphibian BE-200. In its basic option it amphibian is designed for fire fighting, but its unique configuration allows its application for passenger and cargo transportations, coast patrol, environmental control, rescue operations at sea and other purposes. This plane has been actively employed in fighting the current forest fires in Tarasovsky District of Rostov Oblast.

At Beriev Valentina Matvienko and Governor Golubev hosted the meeting "On the status and prospects of the Russian aircraft industry" to discuss the development of aviation industry, naval aviation, the company's priority areas of activity and promotion of its products in Russian and foreign markets. During the course of the trip, Chairwoman of the Federation Council also visited the pipe-manufacturing plant TAGMET to view the production facilities, and to discuss the company's development program with Dmitriy Pumpianski, TMK Group's Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Another meeting hosted by Valentina Matvienko was held at Taganrog Chekhov Drama Theater. It brought together the workers in arts, culture and community leaders, and was dedicated to the preservation of Russian historical heritage, tourism development, repair and reconstruction of cultural assets. "History and culture are our national heritage, moral and ethical basis for this country that we need to protect, to preserve and to pass over to our youth", noted the Chairwoman.

Valentina Matvienko also visited the Peoples' Museum of Military History "Sambek Heights", where she attended the exhibition named "Don Area in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" and made an entry in the book of honorable guests. The Chairwoman planted a rowan tree sapling in the Memorial Alley of Sambek Heights, and laid flowers to the soldiers' tombs.
