July 1, 2023: a press conference on integrated development of Taganrog as a tourist destination was held in the city of Rostov-on-Don. Taganrog City Manager Andrey Fateyev and Rostov Oblast Deputy Governor Alexander Skryabin met the press and responded to questions on Taganrog's
urban revitalization program and on-going preparations for Taganrog's 325th anniversary.
As explained by Alexander Skryabin, 109 out of 223 planned events have already been completed. Among the latter, there are such important ones as the full launch of
the renewed municipal streetcar system; the implementation of the first stage of the federal program
"Clear Sky", aimed at replacement of overhead cables and wires with underground cables in Taganrog's historic downtown area; and the commissioning of
the indoor ice rink, where new sports departments for hockey and curling have been opened.
As for the pending issues, the second stage of the
improvement of Oak Grove ("Dubki") is nearing completion. There are plans to install 165 new streetlights and lay more than a kilometer of paved sidewalks.
Another key activity yet to be finished is the restoration of the city's sewerage collector. Works on 4 of the 11 sections that need to be renewed will be accomplished in 2023.
During the press conference, the question of passenger ships entering Taganrog seaport was also raised. The dredging in the local water area is currently underway. Upon its completion, the seaport will be available even for large passenger ships up to 141 meters long. It is planned that the first passenger ship will moor to Taganrog's
floating pier on July 2.
Besides that, Rostov Oblast Deputy Governor and Taganrog City Manager elaborated on the upcoming
renovations of Pushkin Embankment, Severnaya Square, and some buildings of community centers. The information about the events of
"The Umbrella Morning" festival, dedicated to the Taganrog-native actress
Faina Ranevskaya, was also given.
In March 2023, Governor Vasily Golubev visited Taganrog within the framework of a working trip to the city and participated in the
meeting on the municipal revitalization program.
