TAGMET Taganrog Iron & Steel Factory (TAGMET)

The Taganrog Iron & Steel Factory (Metallurgical Plant) was founded in 1896 as a Russian-Belgian joint-stock company. The proximity to raw material supplies, geographical position and transport terminals of Taganrog were the main factors for further construction of the plant.

Today TAGMET is part of the TMK Group, being the largest manufacturer of steel pipes in the South of Russia. The Company cooperates with more than five thousand customers and proved to be a reliable partner insuring high quality products delivered in conformity with contract terms and conditions. Due to their reliability and high quality, the pipes produced by Taganrog Iron and Steel Factory are widely used in oil and gas extraction industry, agriculture, civil and industrial engineering, as well as in heat power industry.

All pipe products are DIN and TÜV-certified. Several quality certificates have been issued by American Petroleum Institute (API).

One of the most important objectives of the enterprise is fundamental reconstruction and revision of the existing facilities. These measures will enhance the quality of company products and their competitiveness in the domestic and worldwide markets.

Recognition and respect, won by the Company in the business world was confirmed by the ranking of TAGMET at The TOP1000 Best Russian enterprises of the 21th century, as well as numerous awards, including the Honorable Diploma to The Best Exporter of Russia.

TMK is the largest holding company in the Russian tube and pipe industry. It manages the leading Russian tube and pipe enterprises: Volzhsky Pipe Plant (in Volgograd Oblast), Sinarsky Pipe Works (in Sverdlovsk Oblast), Seversky Tube Works (in Sverdlovsk Oblast), and Taganrog Iron and Steel Factory(in Rostov Oblast).

TMK production capabilities cover 45% of Russian tube production. TMK total annual production capacity amounts to 5 mln tons of tube products. The company is the major manufacturer in Russia, producing more than 42% of Russian tubes, and is one of the three biggest tube manufacturers in the world. TMK is also the export leader in its sector because more than a half of the Russian tubes sold abroad are made by TMK. The company's foreign clients stay in more than 60 countries of the world. In 2004 about 780,000 tons of tubes were shipped.

All company's trade operations are executed by its specialized sales divisions: TMK Trading Company, operating in Russia and CIS countries, and Sinara Trading: the official TMK distributor outside former Soviet Republics, with its own branches in Germany, Italy, Spain, Hungary. TMK branches and representative offices in Russia and abroad and a wide network of official dealers greatly contribute to timely and effective decisions regarding the company's product deliveries to clients all over the world.

TMK produces a wide range of tubes for oil and gas production, chemical and petrochemical industry, power engineering, machine-building, construction and housing and communal services, shipbuilding, aeronautical engineering, space and missile technologies. These are welded pipes with diameters from 8 mm to 2520 mm and wall thicknesses from 1 to 25 mm and seamless pipes with diameters from 1 mm to 426 mm and wall thicknesses from 0.1 to 60 mm, i.e. the entire range the world market demands. The pipes are made of carbon, stainless and heat-resistant steels, titanium and nickel alloys, composite metals, and cast iron. TMK products are certified in accordance with international standards API 5L, API 5CT, API 5D, ASTM, DIN and others. The system of quality in all plants is certified to comply with the requirements of ISO 9001 and API Spec Q1 standards.

TMK clients include major Russian and foreign companies such as Gazprom, Transneft, Lukoil, YUKOS, Surgutneftegaz, Exxon, AGIP, Mitsui, Marubeni-Itochu, Wintershall, and many others.

The high quality of TMK products results in its successful participation in many large-scale Russian and international projects. Among them are oil pipeline of the Baltic Pipeline System, gas pipelines Yamal-Western Europe, Near Asia-Center and others.

The most important part of the holding activity are its continuous and systemic efforts aimed at product quality improvement With this objective in view the company wages a large-scale investment program directed at the production updating, renewal of production facilities and putting of new capacities in operation. Annual investments are over 50 mln USD.

In 2006, the continuous casting mill, being the key feature of the TMK investment program, was commissioned. In 2008, a 600 thousand-ton capacity Premium Quality Finishing (PQF) seamless rolling mill was brought on line as scheduled at Taganrog plant. The first batch of PQF seamless pipes was shipped to Surgutneftegas. The PQF mill will produce high-performance 73 to 273 mm OD seamless tubes with up to 25 mm wall thickness. The mill was designed, manufactured and supplied by the German company SMS Meer, a leading supplier of pipe rolling equipment. In addition to expanding the share of premium-class products, the state-of-the-art three roller technology employed by the mill will improve production yields by 6 to 17%.
