Taganrog Marks the 250th Anniversary of the Greek Resettlement

August 15, 2025: the academic conference "Contribution of the Greeks to the Cultural and Economic Development of the Don Region and Priazovye" took place at the Taganrog Museum of Local Lore and History, more commonly known as the Alferaki Palace, on August 12. The event was dedicated to the 250th anniversary of issuing of Empress Catherine the Great's decree on the Greeks' right to move to Russia.

The conference was organized by the regional nonprofit organization "The Local Greeks' National Cultural Autonomy" and the Taganrog Group of Museums (TGLIAMZ) with support from the Rostov Oblast Ministry of Culture and the Federal National Cultural Autonomy of the Greeks of Russia.

The event brought together officials, including Taganrog City Executive Svetlana Kambulova; Taganrog City Council Vice-President Valery Selivanov, RF Foreign Ministry Office in Rostov's Third Secretary Vladislav Makarov, leaders and activists of national cultural autonomies, religious and other public organizations of Rostov Oblast; representatives of the intellectual community. In particular, the senior researcher of the Taganrog Group of Museums Alla Tsymbal and Cand. Sc. Philosophy, the chairman of the Taganrog Greek Autonomy Pavel Revko-Linardato made their reports on some aspects of the sociocultural and economic history of the Greeks.

After the conference, its participants viewed the exhibition of the Alferaki Palace entitled "Taganrog: Time, Place, Events, People."
