September 14, 2019: Official events dedicated to the 321st anniversary of Taganrog's foundation began on September 12 with a flower-laying ceremony to the monument of the Peter the Great - the founder of the city.
Two persons were traditionally awarded the title of Honorary Citizens of Taganrog. The decision was made earlier in August by
Taganrog City Council based on the opinions of city residents.
The City Council President and City Executive Inna Titarenko congratulated the participants of the ceremony and all people of Taganrog on the City Day, and the new Honorary Citizens - with the assignment of this high rank: the rector of the Taganrog College of Management and Economics Sergey Avakov and the general director of Agroprom Import-Export Boris Romanenko. Sergey Avakov and Boris Romanenko thanked the people for the honor and noted that their personal achievements would not have been possible without their teams and public support. In conclusion, all the participants laid flowers at the monument to the founder of Taganrog.
A gala night on this occasion was held at
Taganrog Chekhov Drama Theater. The event was attended by Taganrog City Manager Andrey Lisitsky, Taganrog City Council President and City Executive Inna Titarenko, deputies of
Taganrog City Council, representatives of local governments, law enforcement agencies, youth, the public of the city, as well as
official delegation of the German Chekhov Society from the partner town of
Badenweiler. Taganrog City Manager Andrey Lisitsky traditionally presented "Chekhov Awards" to the best representatives of medicine, education and culture of the city.
