Students of Taganrog Chekhov Teachers College visited sister city Lüdenscheid, Germany.

September 21, 2016: In August-September 2016, 8 students and 2 teachers of the Taganrog Chekhov Teachers College led by Dr. Victor Kulikov visited the sister city of Lüdenscheid within the framework of international educational exchanges with Adolf Reichwein Gesamtschule. Traditionally, the program was focused on researching the German educational system in North Rhine-Westphalia Land and learning methods of teaching German as a foreign language.

Students from Taganrog attended 102 lessons - mostly German, English, French, Turkish and Latin language courses, given by 12 Lüdenscheid teachers. In addition to foreign language programs, Russian students also showed interest in dramatic art lessons, history, geography, politics, religion, social behavior, social science and mathematics. Both Russian teachers attended workshops, PTA meetings and discussions of work experience internships, integration courses and new developments in German educational system.

In addition to this extensive educational program, the German partner school organized tours to the cities of Cologne, Dortmund, Plettenberg and Erzberg, visits to the indoor water park "AquaMagis" in Plettenberg, a boat tour of Rhine river, a medieval castle of Altena and science museum "Phänomenta".

September 7, 2016 the delegation from Taganrog was received at the town hall. Buergermeister Dieter Dzewas told students about the history of Russian-German relations, and highlighted the importance of sister city relationship programs for "multi-faceted exchange possibilities".

Next year will be very special for both Russian and German educational institutions - Adolf-Reichwein-Gesamtschule marks its 30-year foundation anniversary, while the Russian side await the 10th delegation from the partner school in Lüdenscheid. In January 2017 the German school will reciprocate with its own students and teachers coming to Taganrog for an internship program.

The cooperation between the college in Taganrog and Lüdenscheid's gymnasium started in 2001 when the first TGPI student went for one-year course. The department signed an agreement with Adolf-Reichwein-Gesamtschule to develop educational exchanges between students of the two cities. Since 2005 the cooperation between the schools was transformed into student exchanges from both ends.
