The Taganrog Yuzhny Airport inaugurated in Taganrog

December 14, 2009: The new airport Taganrong Yuzhny Airport has been inaugurated today. The first regular flight operated by Aviation Company "Centr-Yug" from Taganrog to Moscow and back was made.

The airport was created on the grounds of the Beriev Aircraft Company. Beriev's CEO and deputy of the Don Land parliament Victor Kobzev mentioned such possibility before the Oblast Duma elections, and finally the whole planning and certification work has been finished.

At the inauguration ceremony, Victor Kobzev told reporters that the Taganrong Yuzhny Airport is the second airport in the Rostov Oblast, which can accept for landing any types of aircrafts, and besides can serve as a backup for emergency landings in case of a bad weather over Rostov on Don.

Mayor Fedyanin interviewed on the airstrip

Mayor of Taganrog Nikolay Fedyanin arrived with this flight from the Moscow where he was for a short business trip. Mayor Fedyanin shared his impressions right after leaving the aircraft on the airstrip: "It was very moving and pleasant for me to be in Moscow Vnukovo and to hear the announcer "checking for flight Moscow-Taganrog..." and also when going down for landing to see behind not the shapes of Rostov, but the Gulf of Taganrog, and the city from the bird's eye view... I hope that this will further develop serving the needs of Taganrog and its people."

The flights to and from Moscow Vnukovo Airport are made on board of the Yakovlev Yak-40 airplane (32 seats) twice a week (every Monday and Friday).

In future Beriev's CEO and his partners are planning to schedule three flights to Moscow each week, and also further "geographical expansion" with flights to Saint Petersburg and possibly Sochi and Gelendzhik when the tourism high season starts.
