Surge in refugees: 10,000 a week come through Rostov Oblast. As of today all temporary accommodation centers in Taganrog are full.

June 20, 2014: on June 4, 2014 Governor Vasily Golubev declared a State of Emergency in Taganrog and 14 other municipalities and counties of Rostov Oblast. Over the past two weeks 932 citizens of Ukraine applied for help only through the foreign relations office at Taganrog City Hall, and filled out questionnaires for refugees. Most fugitive families applied for Russian Federation citizenship and work permits within the framework of the newly launched government's resettlement program.

The neo-Nazi leaders who seized power in Kiev unleashed an "anti-terror" crackdown against ethnic Russians in the east and south of the country. The situation has recklessly escalated in the past days, and Taganrog continues to receive a large inflow of refugees from Donbas area, fleeing from neo-Nazi storm troopers.

As of today all temporary accommodation centers in Taganrog are full: over 340 people who have no relatives in the region are accommodated in Taganrog. They have been officially provided a core group of services, including food, housing, clothing, and follow-up medical assistance. An estimate of the number of people who came to reunite with their family members living in Taganrog or in Rostov Oblast area is around 1,500 people.

Residents of the city of Taganrog are collecting humanitarian aid for Ukrainian refugees who stay in the city and in Dmitriadovsky (1 mile from Taganrog), which is the largest temporary accommodation center for refugees in Rostov Oblast.

The Russian government will provide 240 million rubles in aid to Ukrainian refugees in the southern Rostov region, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday, June 19.
