The conference attracted not only a number of specialists, mainly historians, art historians and archaeologists, but also students and other interested citizens.
"I would like to thank the organizers for the opportunity to take part in this conference and to welcome participants from Rostov-on-Don, Azov, Krasnodar and Taganrog. The presentations referred not only to archaeological and antropological research, but also tackled the problems of contemporary perception and preservation of historic cemeteries. It goes for inclusion of cemetery spaces into urban environment, their role in preservation of history and cultural heritage, the upbringing of young people. The evidence from global practice shows that everywhere necropoleis are among popular tourist spots. Each monument represents someone's destiny, which influenced the history of this city. It is very important that tangible steps have already made in this area to increase the tourist attraction of Taganrog", highlighted Taganrog City Council President and City Executive Inna Titarenko.
Earlier,
an extensive inventory at the historic Taganrog Old Cemetery of the monuments possessing historical and artistic value was completed by Taganrog Local Government and volunteers. In November 2021 the first comprehensive
illustrated guidebook to the Historic Old Cemetery was published in Taganrog.
