The All-Russia Yachting Competitions "Spring Sails" held in Taganrog

April 25, 2012: qualifying rounds of the All-Russian Yachting Competitions "Spring Sails" are held in Taganrog April 20-26, 2012. The event is dedicated to centennial anniversary of the Russian Yachting Federation.

More than 400 young sportsmen from various regions and cities of Russia - Krasnodar Krai, Perm Krai, regions of Samara, Rostov, Lipetsk, Leningrad and Moscow, Tatarstan, and the cities of Omsk, Voronezh, Sochi, Vladivostok, Mias, Samara, Kolomny, Chelyabinsk, Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Sarartov came to Taganrog to participate in the competitions.

The opening of competitions and a press conference were held Saturday, April 21 in the historical building of the Taganrog Yacht Club.

Mayor Vladimir Prasolov remarked that the city of Taganrog turned out to be the most convenient location to start this year's regular season, considering that in most places in Russia it's still cold.

"In sport there are no losers", emphasized Mayor Prasolov. "In any case I sincerely wish all participants to gain at least a small victory over oneself. Good luck to all of you!"

Vadim Mekhanikov, Chief Judge of the competition and Anastasia Chernova, Commissar of the Russian Yachting Federation wished all participants seven feet under the keel and a favorable wind.

According to the results of competitions held in Taganrog, the best sportsmen will be selected for the Russian national youth team. Leaders in the yacht classes "Optimist", "Cadet", "Zoom 8", "Laser 4.7", "Laser Radial", "420" will be participating at the European championship in Italy and at the world championship in Austria. The top 30 sportsmen in the class "Optimist" will be admitted for participation in the Russian national championship to be held in August 2012 in Saint-Petersburg.
