Rally in support of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine held in Taganrog

March 5, 2014: a rally in support of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine gathered several thousand people in Taganrog's Oktyabrskaya Ploshad (Red October Plaza). Taganrog is situated just some 40 miles from Donetsk Oblast in the Ukraine, and many Taganrogers are deeply concerned for relatives and friends residing in the neighboring country.

"The citizens of Taganrog are ready to help all Russian-speaking citizens of the Ukraine, whose rights are infringed by Nazis in the Ukraine. United we stand despite frontiers between the two countries, and no one can take away the sense of brotherhood among our people", said Boris Shabanov, Chairman of the Coordination council of Taganrog municipal assembly of representatives of public and political organizations.

Among the people who gathered in Oktyabrskaya Ploshad were students, Cossacks, representatives of political parties and organizations: The Young Guards of The United Russia party, The Just Russia political party, non-government organizations "Battle Brotherhood" and "The Russian Paratroopers Union", deputies of Taganrog City Council (Duma), Paralympic athlete Sergey Burlakov and residents of Ukrainian cities of Mariupol and Dnepropetrovsk. Mariupol's resident Vyacheslav Kuklin who is visiting Taganrog with 9 other people delegated by the peoples' rally told in his speech that the power in Ukraine was overtaken by fascist junta, and that was the reason for an appeal addressed to President Putin.

The protesters held slogans that said "Let's put an end to Fascism together", "Russia and Ukraine - United we stand", "Keep your hands off Crimea", "We are for a peaceful solution in the Ukraine", "We won't give up fraternal nation to the Nazis", "We will not abandon our compatriots in trouble", etc.
