October 28, 2014: as another step in developing cooperation with Alliance Française, meetings with French poet, writer and translator Marc Sagnol were held at the Foreign Languages Dept. of Taganrog Chekhov Teachers' College (TGPI) and at Chekhov Public Library (Foreign Books branch at the historical Tchaikovsky House).
Mr. Sagnol used to work for Alliance Française in a number of CIS countries, and in 2007-2010 served as Cultural Attaché and Head of the Book Department at the Embassy of France in Moscow.
The French poet presented the audience his books "C'est l'âge d'or" and "Lieux d'errance" (translated into Russian by Mikhail Yasnoff), both of them saturated with love and respect for Russian history and culture. One of the most touching moments was the author reading one of the two new poems dedicated to Taganrog.
The Taganrog Chekhov Public Library arranged for Marc Sagnol a tour around the mansion of Ippolit Tchaikovsky, one of Taganrog's landmarks where composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky stayed at least three times.
