Taganrog Delegation Participated in Odessa Sister Cities Day Celebration

September 6, 2013: grand opening of the concert to celebrate Odessa sister cities day was held on Sept.2, 2013 in Greek Plaza. The celebration took place on the same day as Odessa's 219th City Day celebrations.

Taganrog is one of Odessa's partner cities. The cooperation agreement between the two cities was signed 20 years ago in 1993 in Varna, Bulgaria.

Mr. Alexey Drannikov, Taganrog's Deputy-Mayor and Mr. Yuri Didenko - Russian Consul in Odessa and Vice-Director of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Ukraine came to Greek Plaza to congratulate citizens of Odessa.

"Taganrog and Odessa are two cities that have a lot in common and we value our friendship very much" told Deputy Mayor Drannikov in his address.

Among other sister cities visiting Odessa on its 219th city day celebration were official delegations from Lódz (Poland), Ningbo (China), Piraeus (Greece) and Qingdao (China).

Folk groups representing national diasporas of Odessa presented on stage multiethnic cultural traditions. Alexey Drannikov, Deputy Mayor of Taganrog played Russian Cossack in the performance by folk music band "Slavyane".

Citizens and guests of Odessa could also learn many facts about its sister cities and participate in various quizzes and competitions on knowledge of history and culture. The winners received prizes from Taganrog and Odessa's partner cities.
