Residents of Mariupol collect signatures and appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin for help

March 4, 2014: A peoples' delegation from Taganrog's Ukrainian partner city of Mariupol, Donetsk Oblast was sent to Russia by the resolution of a public gathering, which was held on March 3, 2014 in front of its municipality.

Ten delegates brought an appeal for help to Russian-speaking majority of Mariupol signed by more than 1000 citizens and addressed to Russian president Vladimir Putin. The document was transmitted into The Office of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in Rostov-on-Don on March 4, 2014. The document is calling Vladimir Putin to recognize the newly established Ukrainian authorities in Kiev as illegitimate, to assist in reestablishment of constitutional order in the country, and to bring a peacekeeping force in case of aggression against Russian-speaking majority in the region.

"Three meetings have been held in the last few days, and yesterday we have collected over 1000 signatures under this document. We could collect many more, but manufacturing plants in Mariupol work three shifts, so that not all the people could stay until the end", - explained Mariupol's resident of Greek origin Sergey Kurkchi.

The Ukrainians from Taganrog's partner city also participated in the rally in support of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine, which was held in Rostov-on-Don on March 4, 2014.
