Commemorative auto rally to Saur-Mogila Monument

May 6, 2010 Don Cossacks of the Taganrog District headed by Ataman Colonel Alexander Shepelenko participated in the auto rally across the memorial sites of the Great Patriotic War from the city of Taganrog - to Sambek Heights and up to Saur Tomb (Saur-Mogila) in the Ukraine near Khartsyzsk.

Around one hundred Cossacks from Taganrog held a joint gathering with Zaporozhian Cossacks in front of the WWII memorial Saur-Mogila, a place where fierce fighting between the Soviet and German troops took place in 1943. Representatives of Khartsyzsk and Shakhtarsk local governments participated in the meeting. The rally was dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

May 8, 2010 Cossacks of Taganrog paid tribute to Soviet soldiers of the liberation army, and solemnly placed a capsule with earth from the Saur Tomb monument on the Sambek Heights.
