May 7-10, 2012: Alfaim Aziz oglu Ismailov, Senior Secretary of the Azerbaijan Republican Committee for War, Military and Police Veterans visited the city of Taganrog at the invitation of Mayor Vladimir Prasolov.
Mr. Ismailov, son of a Soviet 416th Rifle Division's soldier who died during the liberation of Taganrog in 1943, visited the monuments and places related to Great Patriotic War - the Gully of Death, Sambek Heights, WWII monuments in downtown Taganrog, and the museum of the 416th Rifle Division in the municipal school num. 26.
It was a special interest for Alfaim Ismailov, an established Azerbaijani playwright and cultural figure, an author of 5 theater plays, to see the Chekhov sites in his home city: the memorial museum "The Birth House of Anton Chekhov",
Taganrog Chekhov Drama Theater, Taganrog Museum of Art and the Chekhov Public Library.
May 9, 2012 the Azerbaijani visitor participated in the celebration of the Victory Day and Flower laying ceremony at the Sambek Height Great Patriotic War monument, met with war veterans and participated in the gathering in front of the Eternal flame monument in the Taganrog's Gorky Park.
Within the framework of the visit to Taganrog, Mr. Ismailov met with Oleg Demenev, First Deputy Mayor, Marina Radomskaya, Deputy Mayor for Social Affairs, and with leaders of veteran organizations of Taganrog. The Russian and Azerbaijani sides agreed to revive contacts between schools in Taganrog and Baku, and to develop cooperation and exchange experience between veteran organizations.
