International Holocaust Remembrance events held in Taganrog

December 12, 2014: International Holocaust Remembrance events were held in Taganrog. Among the guests were: Olga Slov, Minister Plenipotentiary of Israeli Diplomatic Mission in Russia; David Mamistvalov, 1st Secretary of the Embassy of Israel in Russia; Katherine Surmanski, Second Secretary at Embassy of Canada to Russia; Leigh Sarty, Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at Embassy of Canada to Russia; Ilya Altman, professor of RGGU (Russian State University for the Humanities); Mikhail Gluz, director of the Moscow-based Solomon Mikhoels` International Cultural Center (SMICC) etc.

The delegation visited the memorial (Gully of Death) in the gully of Petrushino near Taganrog and laid flowers to the monument "Jewish Children - Victims of Holocaust". "Taganrog became the first Russian city where massacres of under age population were committed by Nazis during the Great Patriotic War. It must never repeat again!"- said Olga Slov.

After the visit to the memorial complex, the guests came to Taganrog Chekhov Public Library to inaugurate the art exhibition by an Israeli graphic artist Josef Bau, who was a concentration camp inmate during World War II.
