Trainee of Taganrog Tennis Academy Aslan Karatsev Wins Kremlin Cup

October 29, 2021: Aslan Karatsev became the 10th Russian winner of the Kremlin Cup, which is a professional tennis tournament played on indoor hard courts. In the final (October 24), Karatsev defeated the Croatian player Marin Cilic, 6-2, 6-4.

It is noteworthy that in the semi-final Aslan Karatsev beat another Russian - Karen Khachanov, 7-6, 6-1.

Aslan Karatsev had moved to Taganrog in his teenage years. Alexander Kuprin and Ivan Potapov had been Karatsev's coaches in the city. Alexander Kuprin had played a key role in transferring Karatsev into adult tennis. Led by Kuprin, Karatsev had reached the 46th place in ITF junior rankings, had been proclaimed the best junior of 2011 for the "Russian Cup" tennis nomination, and eventually became the champion of Russia.

In 2015 the trainee of Taganrog Tennis Academy won three medals for Team Russia at the XXVIII Summer Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea. In August 2021 Aslan Karatsev won his first Olympic medal together with Yelena Vesnina in tennis mixed doubles.
