Taganrog Marks the 79th Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War

May 7, 2024: Taganrog celebrated Victory Day commemorating the nation's major role in the allied victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War (World War II).

On the eve of the 79th anniversary of Victory, Deputy of Rostov Oblast Legislative Assembly and director of Taganrog Chekhov Public Library Tatyana Mikheyeva, City Manager Andrey Fateyev, Vice-President of Taganrog City Council Valery Selivanov, deputy chairman of Taganrog Council of Veterans Alexander Kucherenko and representatives of local authorities laid Victory Day flowers in front of "The City of Military Glory" stela. The ceremony brought together veterans, representatives of NGOs, municipal officers, municipal deputies, and students. As tradition demands, a moment of silence was observed as a tribute to the heroes and victims of the Great Patriotic War.

"Nowadays this event takes on a special meaning. The ability to unite in difficult times helped our people defeat Nazi Germany. And at the present time, when external forces are once again making attempts to divide and destroy Russia, to rewrite history, we must be worthy of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers. It is our duty to preserve the memory of the immortal feat of the Soviet people, the truth about the Great Patriotic War," said Andrey Fateyev.

The city's officials, representatives of NGOs and schools also laid flowers and wreaths to numerous war memorials and monuments of Taganrog.
