Taganrog Marks the 77th Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War

May 11, 2022: Taganrog celebrated Victory Day commemorating the nation's major role in the allied victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War (World War II).

The list of events consisted of feature concerts, films and other festivities in many locations, public gatherings, traditional relay races and laying of flowers and wreaths to numerous war memorials and monuments.

The official flower-laying ceremony, marking the 77th Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War, took place on May 6. Taganrog City Manager Mikhail Solonitsin and Taganrog City Council President and City Executive Inna Titarenko laid flowers at "The City of Military Glory" Stela.

On May 9, over 30000 residents and visitors of Taganrog gathered in downtown Taganrog and marched down Petrovskaya, the city's main street, to honor the memory of those who died in combat in 1941-1945. Participants of the now-traditional "Immortal Regiment March", led by Mikhail Solonitsin and Inna Titarenko, wore St. George ribbons and carried photographs of their family members who fought in the war.

Municipal officials of Taganrog Local Government also laid flowers on war memorials "Tank", "To Pilots", "To Heroes of the Underground", "To Sailors", "To Soviet and Party Officials". They visited the Avenue of Immortality and Gully of Death as well.

All the necessary COVID-19 safety measures were maintained during the events.

The 77th Victory Day anniversary celebration culminated in a fireworks show that illuminated the sky at 10PM.
