Taganrog Marks the 76th Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War

May 12, 2021: Taganrog celebrated Victory Day commemorating the nation's major role in the allied victory over Nazi Germany in Great Patriotic War (World War II).

The list of events consisted of festivities in many locations as well as laying of flowers and wreath to numerous war memorials and monuments.


On the eve of the 76th anniversary of Victory, an excursion to the Peoples' Museum of Military History "Sambek Heights" was organized for the local war, labor, and military veterans' council. Representatives of the municipal committees were invited to "Sambek Heights" on the same day. They laid flowers at the memorial, visited the museum area, and attended the International festival of national cultures and modern arts "When We Are United, We Are Invincible" held in the amphitheatre of "Sambek Heights". A day later, on May 9, many residents and guests of Taganrog arrived at "Sambek Heights" memorial to honour the ancestors and lay flowers at the monument.

The official flower-laying ceremony, marking the 76th Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War, took place on May 9. Taganrog City Manager Andrei Lisitsky and President of Taganrog City Council (Duma) and City Executive Inna Titarenko laid flowers at "The City of Military Glory" Stela. Municipal officials of Taganrog Local Government also laid flowers on war memorials "Tank", "To Pilots", "To Heroes of the Underground", "To Sailors", "To Soviet and Party Officials". They visited the Avenue of Immortality and Gully of Death as well.


All the necessary COVID-19 safety measures were maintained during the events. Dozens of citizens, both adults and children, visited the Avenue of Immortality, "Oath of Youth" monument, the memorial to sailors of Azov Naval Flotilla, and other memorial places of Taganrog. The total length of the route exceeds 18 km (about 11.3 mi).

The 76th Victory Day anniversary celebration culminated in a fireworks show that illuminated the sky at 10PM.
