Taganrog Marks the 73rd Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War

May 11, 2018: Taganrog celebrated Victory Day commemorating the nation's major role in the allied victory over Nazi Germany in Great Patriotic War (World War II).

The list of events consisted of feature concerts, films and other festivities in many locations, public gatherings and laying of flowers to numerous war monuments.

May 7, around two thousand students of Taganrog schools gathered on Oktyabrskaya Plaza and danced to the melody of the famous pre-war waltz "The Blue Kerchief", which turned into a symbol of victory.

On May 9, 2018 thirty six thousand people gathered in downtown Taganrog and marched down Petrovskaya, the city's mainstreet, to honor the memory of those who died in combat in 1941-1945. Participants of the now-traditional "Immortal Regiment March" wore St. George ribbons and carried photographs of their family members who fought in the war.

The march was led by a column that carried the red flag of victory, followed by groups of Taganrog-based enterprises and municipal corporations, comprising their senior managers and staff, college and school students. Among the participants of the "Immortal Regiment March" were leaders of the city, including City Manager Mr. Andrei Lisitsky and City Executive Mrs. Inna Titarenko.

The 73rd Victory Day anniversary celebration culminated in a fireworks show that illuminated the sky at 10PM.
