September 15, 2012: September 14, 2012 at 4:00PM the project "Tramway Wi-Fi" was launched in Taganrog. The first five streetcars in Taganrog have been equipped with high-speed mobile internet service.
The creation of free wi-fi zones was initiated by Mayor Prasolov. "This project is a very important stage in development of information society in Taganrog. The city with a considerable scientific and tourism potential must offer its citizens and its visitors free access to any information resources. This is another step in civil society development and realization of citizen's right to get information and express their views on what is going on in this country" said Vladimir A. Prasolov.
By the end of September, Megafon Joint-Stock Company will be installing specialized wi-fi routers on 20 more streetcars in Taganrog, providing mobile internet access to hundreds of Taganrog citizens every day. The internet data transfer speed is up to 7.2 MBit/s. To get internet access, tramway passengers must activate wi-fi in their mobile device's network settings and select "Megafon" network.
