Visit of Business Delegation from Finland

September 11-14, 2006: Official delegation of Finland headed by Henrik Räihä, Deputy Director General of Ministry of Trade and Industry visited Rostov Oblast and Taganrog. The official delegation included business circles, representing the company Metso Automation, the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Finnish-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the vice-mayor of Rostov's sister city Kajani.

The history of cooperation between the Rostov Oblast and Finland goes back to the Scanbusiness-2004 business forum, which was held in Rostov in 2004. Two years ago, the Russian and Finnish sides signed a protocl of intentions and established a workgroup that held its first meeting on April 19, 2005 in Helsinki. Among the major projects, which have been realized by the workgroup are the project of Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant and the VR Group (Finnish railway company) for production of units and spare parts for locomotives. A new joint company ZAO Sampo - Rostov was founded to assemble the combine-harvesters of the Finnish company SAMPO.

Finnish delegation

The Finnish delegation visited the city of Taganrog on September 12, 2006. The meeting started at the Office of Mr. Vladimir Prasolov, the First Vice-Mayor of Taganrog. The participants of the meeting discussed the problems and ideas related to trade, development of tourism, educational and cultural exchanges. Mr. Amerkhanov, the President of the Taganrog Interregional Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TICCI) established contact with the Finnish-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. After a short press briefing, the Russian and Finnish sides proceeded to the next-door building of the Taganrog State University of Radio Engineering, office of the Center of Information and Electronic Technologies TECHNOCENTER (also named "technopark"). Mr. Koretsky, Director of the Center made a short presentation of its activities, projects and introduced several small and medium-size innovative companies that work under the Center's roof. The presenation was followed by meeting with local business circles, including large factories like Taganrog Boiler Factory Krasny Kotelshchik, Taganrog Iron & Steel Factory and Energomash Engineering, transforming into an active exchange between the business people of Taganrog and Finland.

Several Taganrog-based companies took part at the meeting of the workgroup on bilateral cooperation held in Rostov's Don Plaza hotel on September 13. Over 40 companies from Rostov Oblast were present. The Finnish side expressed interest in amphibians produced by the Beriev Aircraft Corp., in helicopters of the Rostov Helicopter Factory (RostVertol), and the two sides agreed to continue exchanges and development of further mutual projects.
