November 23, 2021: a round table entitled "Peter the Great's Reforms in Russian History" took place on the premises of Taganrog's Chekhov Literature Museum on November 19. The event was held within the framework of the 26th St. Dimitry Educational Readings, annually organized by Don Metropolitan See.
Among the participants were the chairman of the legislation committee of Rostov Oblast Legislative Assembly Alexander Kosachev, State Duma Deputy Yekaterina Stenyakina, priest of Rostov-on-Don eparchy Vladislav Palanchev, Taganrog City Council President and City Executive Inna Titarenko, Taganrog Group of Museums' director Yelizaveta Lipovenko. Members of Taganrog City Council, staff of museums and libraries, historians, university students attended the round table as well.
The topic was not chosen at random.
In 2022 Taganrog will commemorate the 350th birth anniversary of Peter the Great - the founder of this city.
"Everybody knows the value of Peter the Great's contributions to the formation and development of Taganrog. Now Taganrog is experiencing its rebirth. The urban infrastructure is being strengthened, public transport is being renewed, parks and gardens are being improved, and Taganrog's historic center is reviving. It is all thanks to the close support of Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko and Rostov Oblast Governor Vasily Golubev", Alexander Kosachev said.
At the conclusion, Alexander Kosachev presented Rostov Oblast Legislative Assembly's awards to the winners of tour guide contest "The Heritage of Peter the Great in Taganrog History".
The winners are:
1st place - Natalia Sopova ("Taganrog on the fly");
2nd place - Igor Pashchenko ("The City of Walking Monuments");
3rd place - Natalia Sudakova ("Peter's Taganrog").
