March 30, 2025: a new museum exhibition titled "Taganrog: Time, Place, Events, People" was unveiled at the Alferaki Palace, part of the Taganrog Historical and Literary Museum-Reserve. The opening marked the 165th anniversary of Anton Chekhov's birth. Among the attendees were Igor Guskov, First Deputy Governor of Rostov Region, Culture Minister Anna Dmitrieva, and Taganrog City Executive Svetlana Kambulova.
The Alferaki Palace, a federal cultural heritage site, is a striking example of eclectic architecture in southern Russia. The new exhibition, spanning 1,700 square meters, explores Taganrog's history from ancient times to the present, highlighting its role as Russia's first naval base, a key economic and cultural hub in the 19th century, and a significant center in the Don region today.
The exhibition features cutting-edge technology, including anti-glare display cases, modern lighting, security systems, and multimedia tools, enhancing the visitor experience. Funded with 243.9 million rubles from the regional budget, the project reflects a professional effort by the museum team.
"This cultural project will be appreciated by both locals and visitors," said Mayor Kambulova. Igor Guskov added, "It's symbolic to open this exhibition in the halls where Chekhov dreamed of creating a city museum, especially in his anniversary year."
Museum staff received recognition from regional and local authorities for their work. The exhibition marks a new chapter for the Alferaki Palace, promising to captivate and educate its audience.
