June 10, 2022: the opening ceremony to unveil the memorial sign "Trinity Fortress on Tagan-Rog Cape" was held in Peter's Square on June 9. It became the first in a series of events dedicated to Peter the Great's 350th birth anniversary.
Rostov Oblast Deputy Governor Alexander Skryabin and Taganrog City Council President and City Executive Inna Titarenko were present at the event. The opening was followed by flower-laying ceremony and a concert.
The memorial sign is made in the form of a truncated pentagonal prism. The outlines of the fortress and harbour are laid on its tilted upper side. The lower pentagonal platform keeps four cannon balls.
The sign is placed on the bottom viewpoint by Peter's monument, within the former territory of the fortress. The design of the construction corresponds to the square's style.
The project is the brainchild of the director of
Taganrog Museum of Architecture and Urbanism Marianna Grigoryan and the chairman of "Historic Taganrog" Foundation Igor Pavlenko. The artistic design was developed by the architect Vladimir Vergoti.
