May 27, 2022: the exhibition entitled "The Great Sovereign of Destiny" dedicated to the founder of this city was unveiled to public at Taganrog Museum of Art on May 26.
Rostov Oblast Minister of Culture Anna Dmitrieva, deputy of the State Duma Sergey Burlakov, Taganrog City Manager Mikhail Solonitsin, Taganrog City Council President and City Executive Inna Titarenko, deputy of Taganrog City Council Valery Selivanov, and directors of regional and urban museums were present at the opening ceremony.
"The Great Sovereign of Destiny" started the series of events in Taganrog dedicated to Peter the Great's 350th birth anniversary. A new memorial sign at the site of Saint Trinity Fortress is to be unveiled in Peter's Square in June 2022.
The exhibition features remarkable works of art, dedicated to Peter the Great's time. Most of them were painted by such acclaimed masters as Vasily Surikov, Ivan Aivazovsky, Arkhip Kuindzhi, and others. "The Great Sovereign of Destiny" is open until July 30.
"Remembering the life of Peter the Great, we are finding today that sometimes a man is an island, if the man has a great dream and is ready to improve life, no matter what is meant by improvement", said Inna Titarenko.
"This exhibition and the image of Peter the Great, created by this exhibition, will be of particular help to the younger generation. The image serves as an example of genuine patriotism", emphasized Taganrog City Manager Mikhail Solonitsin.
At the conclusion of the opening ceremony, in celebration of the International Museum Day, Minister of Culture Anna Dmitrieva congratulated museum workers on behalf of Rostov Oblast Governor Vasily Golubev.
Directors of Taganrog Group of Museums, Taganrog Museum of Art, Taganrog Museum of Local History and Taganrog Museum of Architecture and Urbanism were awarded with "85 Years of Rostov Oblast" medals and letters of commendation.
