September 30, 2024: the International Children's Art Contest "Anton Chekhov and Characters of His Works" was held in the city of Taganrog for the twelfth time.
Over 1200 artworks from Russia and 21 world countries (974 artworks from places other than Russia) were received by the organizers of the contest. Here is the list of these countries: Argentina, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bulgaria, China, Ethiopia, France, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Paraguay, Serbia, Slovenia, South Ossetia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Young artists from Ethiopia, France, Morocco, Paraguay, South Ossetia, and Turkmenistan took part for the very first time, bringing the overall number of participant countries to 63.
The results were announced in May. Most recently, the winners from Ethiopia, Belarus, and Serbia have been officially awarded. The special ceremonies were organized with the aid of the Russian federal government agency Rossotrudnichestvo - by the Russian House in the city of Addis Ababa, the Consulate General in the city of Brest, and the Russian House in the city of Belgrade, respectively.
On September 26, the contest winning certificates were awarded to the winners who attend the schools of Taganrog's sister city Jining (Shandong Province, China). In total, over 200 drawings from Jining were sent to Taganrog in the framework of the 12th edition of "Anton Chekhov and Characters of his Works," which is a record.
The rest of the certificates will be distributed between the other winners by the end of the year.
