December 18, 2024: yesterday the new exhibition entitled "For the City's Benefit and Glory" was unveiled to the public at the Taganrog Museum of Architecture and Urbanism. The exhibition presents the activity of the Taganrog Construction Committee in 1806-1867.
"For the City's Benefit and Glory" was organized by the Taganrog Group of Museums and the State Archive of Rostov Oblast. The exhibition also features items from private collections of Taganrog researchers Yelena Alexeenko and Sergey Lavrov.
Visitors to the exhibition will learn about the the city's appearance in the first half and mid-19th century. which was supervised by the Taganrog Construction Committee. The group dealt with the matters of architecture, such as putting up public buildings and mansions, paving, laying out parks, monitoring the condition of road surface, etc.
In particular, the exhibition sheds light on such aspects of the history of the local urban development as the selection of colors and details of 19th-century facades, the paving of streets in Taganrog, and the building of the
Taganrog Chekhov Drama Theater
