September 8, 2022: European Quarter, which is one of Taganrog's tourist attractions, changed its name to Petrovski Quarter yesterday, on September 7.
In 2021, European Quarter ranked 3rd in the public poll for "Russian Treasures Award" (in the category "Public Space") held by National Geographic Traveler magazine. The area is filled with cafes, restaurants and trendy shops. The quarter is a perfect Instagrammable place to have an aesthetic photoshoot.
According to Anastasia Morozova, one of co-owners of the area, the initial idea was to reflect Dutch exterior as one referring to the time of Peter the Great, the city's founder. Likewise, the renaming was meant to pay tribute to Russian emperor's legacy.
"It is great that owners decided to rename the place to Petrovski Quarter this very year, the year of his 350th birth anniversary
. This act symbolizes the link between our past, dynamic present and promising future", commented Deputy City Manager Alexey Sanin.
