Chekhov Teachers College Holds International Conference on Philology and Methods of Language Teaching

May 21, 2024: the 7th international applied science conference "Modern Topics in Philology and Methods of Language Teaching" was held on the premises of the Foreign Languages Department of Taganrog Chekhov Teachers College on May 16-17. A number of participants joined the conference online.

The event was aimed at discussing the fundamental problems of contemporary linguistics and methods of language teaching. In particular, the current state of philological education; challenges and opportunities of verbal communication; researches on semantics and pragmatics of language, cognitive linguistics; problems of specialist training and retraining were touched.

The conference participants were greeted by director of Taganrog Chekhov Teachers College Svetlana Petrushenko; professor of the Institut Franšais de Erfurt Marc Sagnol; English teaching expert of the Language Academy of the Carolinas Barbara Franceschini; and alumnus of Taganrog Chekhov Teachers College, now docent of English Language School of the National Research University Higher School of Economics Alexey Bakulev.

The faculty of the Foreign Languages Department of Taganrog Chekhov Teachers College took an active part in the conference. Among those who gave a report were Dean of the Foreign Languages Department Olga Kravets, Chairperson of English Language Subdepartment Yulia Demonova, Chairperson of German and French Languages Subdepartment Oksana Kravchenko, Professor Alexander Pavlenko, Professor Yelena Polyakova, Professor Yelena Deberdeyeva.

A wide number of participants and observers joined the conference online: the organizers received more than 70 applications, including over 60 reports. The event came into notice far beyond Taganrog Chekhov Teachers College and its superior, Rostov State University of Economics. In particular, the faculty and students of universities and colleges from such cities as Moscow, Perm, Salsk, Sevastopol, Smolensk took part in the meeting. As for the international coverage, participants and learners from Algeria, Belarus, France engaged in the work of the conference.

The conference was held in a positive way. Discussion of the declared issues as well as the exchange of views and sharing experiences will definitely have a ripple effect on the practices of the participants.
