An Exhibition Dedicated to Georgy Beriev Opened at "Sambek Heights" Museum

February 16, 2022: Georgy Beriev - Soviet general, founder and chief designer of Beriev Design Bureau in Taganrog, now known as Beriev Aircraft Corp. (TANTK) was born February 13, 1903. He developed numerous successful, and often unique, amphibious designs - Be-2, Be-6, Be-12, Be-30 and many more. Recipient of numerous state awards, including Stalin Prize and Lenin Prize.

An exhibiton dedicated to his life and work was unveiled to the public at Peoples' Museum of Military History "Sambek Heights". Some of Georgy Beriev's personal possessions and memorabilia were lent by Beriev Aircraft Corp., the main organizer of the event. Among exhibits are the designer's tunic, cap, sketches, a table, a chair, and a telephone from Beriev's office, numerous scale models of Beriev's aircrafts.

The opening ceremony brought together Rostov Oblast Deputy Minister of Industry and Energy Sector Andrey Atamantsev, Taganrog City Council President and City Executive Inna Titarenko, Chief of staff of Rostov Oblast's branch of Russian Engineering Union Lidiya Novoseltseva, director of Taganrog Group of Museums (TGLIAMZ) Yelizaveta Lipovenko, Beriev veterans and employees, and other visitors.

In her speech, City Council President and City Executive Inna Titarenko especially emphasized the cultural and educational importance of the exhibition, thanking the corporation for preserving the historical memory of such legendary names as Georgy Beriev, Robert Bartini and Vladimir Petlyakov.

"The exhibition focuses on the man whose ingenuity contributed in the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. After moving to Taganrog in 1934, Georgy Beriev implemented here, in this city, his aeronautical ideas, built his own team of like-minded specialists, trained numerous Soviet designers. In doing so, Beriev glorified not only Soviet aeronautical engineering industry, but also our home city of Taganrog", highlighted Inna Titarenko.
