June 2, 2016: The
International Children's Art Contest "Anton Chekhov and Characters of his Works" was held for the eighth time in the city of Taganrog.
In 2016, 655 artworks from 17 world countries were received by the organizers of the Chekhov Art Contest: Byelorussia, Bulgaria, Donetsk Peoples' Republic, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Serbia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, Uzbekistan and United States of America.
Young artists from Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan took part for the very first time, bringing the overall number of participant countries to 40.
The award ceremony of the Russian winners took place in the exhibition hall of the historical building of the Chekhov Municipal Public Library on June 1, 2016. The Grand Prix was awarded to Margarita Vitinchuk, aged 15, from the city of Novocherkassk, Rostov Oblast, Russia.
