November 17, 2007: The
International Children's
Art Competition "Anton Chekhov and Heroes of his Works" was dedicated to Anton Chekhov’s 150th anniversary. About 200 works from 14 cities of Russia, Ukraine and Belorus were presented to the first contest held in 2004 marked as Chekhov’s Year in Russia.
The contest gathered children and teenagers from 20 countries: Abkhazia, Croatia, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Iran, Italy, Korea, Macedonia, Transnistria, Nigeria, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sri-Lanka, Ukraine, USA. About 800 works were presented.
On November 8, 2007 the award ceremony took place in the exhibition hall of the Central City Public Library. Ninety bronze, silver and gold medals were given to children who had come to the opening of art exhibition from Rostov oblast cities (Azov, Volgodonsk, Novoshakhtinsk, Kamensk-Shakhtinsk, Ust-Donetsk, Bataisk, Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog) and districts (Rodionovo-Nesvetaisky) Matveevo-Kurgansky, Azovsky, Neklinovsky districts.
The Grand Prix is awarded to Tatiana Zarodova, Taganrog Children’s Art School graduate.
Twenty-five (25) awards will go to 12 foreign countries: Abkhazia, Croatia, Hungary, Iran, Korea, Macedonia, Nigeria, Singapore, Slovakia, Ukraine. Romania and Sri-Lanka won medals of all denominations (bronze, silver and gold).
The exhibition of contestants' works is open in the reading room of the Central City Public Libraty after A.P. Chekhov until Dec. 1. Some works are exposed in the exhibition hall of Children’s Art School after Blonskaya.
It’s a pleasure to note that aside from children’s art schools, art studios, children’s musical schools, general schools also took part in the contest.
Today some 200 works selected by the jury are exhibited. Some 800 were sent for the contest.
Contestants’ works are exposed in the reading room of the Central City Public Library until December 1, 2007. Some of the works can be viewed in the exhibition hall of Blonskaya Children's Art School.
