January 30, 2025: Rostov Oblast Acting Governor Yury Slyusar visited Taganrog within the framework of a working trip to the city on January 29. He inspected a number of municipal facilities under reconstruction, including a garden square on Ulitsa Marshala Zhukova and the sports infrastructure of the plant
Krasny Kotelshchik.
Anton Chekhov's 165th birthday served as the central focus of the trip. In particular, Yury Slyusar laid flowers to the writer's monument, visited the local art museum and reached out to the connoisseur of Anton Chekhov's literary heritage.
"I was impressed with the number of projects and initiatives having been launched by Chekhov himself and still important after all this time. It is essential to support them. Taganrog is a wonderful city, wonderful people live here. The city can compete for the title of cultural epicenter," said Yury Slyusar.
After discussing different proposals concerning the cultural sphere of Taganrog's life, Acting Governor considered the idea of exchanging exhibitions between the Chekhov museums of Taganrog, Crimea, Sakhalin and Moscow as interesting: "I will not refuse support. This is our strong literary brand."
Participants of the meeting with the governor came forward with several cultural initiatives, such as to transform the birthplace of
Faina Ranevskaya, the old Taganrog Fortress building into museums, and to set up a garden near the "CHekhov Gymnasium" museum of literature.
As the meeting came to an end, Yury Slyusar accepted the invitation to watch "The Man in a Case" at the
The Taganrog Chekhov Drama Theater.
