December 13, 2024: Rostov Oblast Acting Governor Yury Slyusar visited Taganrog within the framework of a working trip to the city. He inspected a number of municipal facilities, including some business units and the local landfill.

The Taganrog Chekhov Drama Theater served as the central focus of the trip. Yury Slyusar and local authorities discussed the theater's restoration plans. It is expected that the works will have been finished by 2027, when the Taganrog Chekhov Drama Theater celebrates the 200th anniversary of its functioning.


According to Rostov Oblast Minister of Culture Anna Dmitriyeva, the restoration is to begin next year. The project design documentation has already been accepted. The regional authorities are to provide funding in the amount of 557.8 million roubles.

The art director of the Taganrog Chekhov Drama Theater Sergey Gert said that all the works are to be carried out in stages: the roof and frontispiece renewal in the first place, and then the upgrading of stage equipment. Despite the significant level of efforts, the theater is going to keep to its busy schedule; there are 31 productions on the repertoire at the moment.


"The works must proceed without interruptions so that we can celebrate the theater's anniversary in its renovated building," said Rostov Oblast Acting Governor Yury Slyusar.
