December 8, 2021: the second modernization phase of Taganrog streetcar system has begun. The project is realized within the framework of concession agreement for a new streetcar system and procurement of trams for Taganrog. The second stage will deal with the streetcar line #2. Rostov Oblast Deputy Governor Alexander Skryabin announced it during the working group's session on Taganrog's tourism development on December 6, 2021.

The second phase implies more than 35 kilometers of rails and reinforced concrete blocks, overhauling of the tram depot and five traction substations, procurement of 50 trams, and creation of 76 new tram stops.

Such public areas as North Square Garden, Taganrog's Tercentenary Park and the historic "Oak Grove" (Dubki) are currently in the process of beautification. Besides this, the working group discussed the interrelated renovation of the Pushkin Embankment and the seaport territories.

"Many tasks are multidimensional, supervised and led by the Governor. The most difficult ones are even monitored by Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko", said Alexander Skryabin.
